Franklin County High School JROTC Drill Team Receives Awards

: The Franklin County High School JROTC Drill Team competed in the South West MS regional drill competition on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The team competed against JROTC programs from all service branches across the southern and south western areas of the state. South Pike High School hosted the competition on behalf of the Mississippi Department of Education JROTC bureau. The Franklin County team received honors as 1st place in Armed Platoon, 1st place in Color Guard, 2nd place in Unarmed Platoon, and 2nd place in Armed Squad categories of competition.

Franklin County Chess Dominates at Mississippi Children's Museum

The Mississippi Children’s Museum in Jackson provided a welcoming venue for the 2017 Mississippi Grade Level Chess Tournament on Saturday, October 14.  In addition to the usual visitors to the museum, one hundred forty eight students from around the state arrived in hopes of becoming grade level champions.  By bus and car, fifty-seven of those aspiring chess players traveled from Franklin County.
